VESAK FESTIVAL

  


                

 Vesak can be described as a festival celebrated with great devotion by the Buddhists. The birth, enlightenment and passing away of the Supreme Buddha are believed to have taken place on this day. Vesak is celebrated to commemorate these wonderful events of the Supreme buddha. As it is a very important day for the Buddhist, the Buddhist people look forward to celebrating it with great devotion.

                                                                   The specialty of this festival is that a Vesak lantern can be seen hanging in the houses of the Buddhist people. In addition, the houses are lit by light bulbs. People collectively hang Vesak lanterns on the roads and streets, make pandals and make lanterns. Also on Vesak day people are entertained at dansals. It builds cooperation among Buddhists. Vesak day is an example to the whole world. Vesak is celebrated in this manner in honor of the Supreme Buddha.

                                          One of my favorite excursions so far is the Sinharaja Forest. It is a trip we took from school. Let's say this tour in grade 11 with fellow students who studied O/L. We left school at about four in the morning and went on that trip singing and having a lot of fun.
